BLACK TEAM – PASOC 2010 Youth Basketball Champions thumbnail

The Black Team clinched the championship versus the Red Team on the Youth Basketball Tournament  sponsored by the Pangasinan Society of Calgary held last Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex.  Eight teams of youths aged 10 – 16 composed this year’s league who played for four Saturdays during the months of July and August.  This program started in 2006 by then PASOC President Dita Serquiña is aimed to keep the youths occupied during the lazy hazy days of summer while at the same time building relationship among their peers in learning teamwork, instilling discipline and improving their sense of responsibility and commitment skills through sports.

The championship round proved to be entertaining as both Black and Red Teams have a 2 Wins – 1 Tie record in the team standing.  Paul Gulfo, the league’s Most Valuable Player racked in 39 points in the game and gave him a total of 106 points throughout the four games he played.  Edwin Trinidad of the Green Team was awarded the Free-throw Shootout Champion while Antoine Beltran, also of the Green Team, went home with the Three-points Shootout Champion trophy.  All players and parents joined for a pizza and refreshment during the wind-up party courtesy of donations from members and officers of PASOC.   Committee Chairpersons Narlo and Dita Serquiña were overwhelmed of the tournament’s success and thank all participants most especially the numerous volunteers who served as scorers, time-keepers, coaches and referees.
