Hello everyone! As of this writing, I am still in our home country, the Philippines where the weather is soaring HOT! I managed to escape some terrible weather where the snow is 10 inches high on our driveway. But of course, I miss the winter since now it is very hot down here in Manila that even if I just got out of the shower, I am sweating like crazy. Indeed that is one of the major difference between living in the Philippines and living in Canada. Yes, if I will make a list of some of the major differences in our lifestyle from Manila and Calgary, it will be a very long list. One this in particular is that in most establishments, like in the malls, etc. you will have to bring your own “toilet paper” or you’ll end up buying from the vending machine in the public washrooms. This is one thing that reallyt shock me when I went to visit Manila for the first time in 2004 after living in Calgary for 8 years.
When I was on my flight out from Calgary to Vancouver, I bumped into some of my fellow Filipinos who are also on their way home to a holiday. The awkward moment for me is when I was on the same flight with a former acquaintance who turned her back on me for some reasons beyond my understanding. But since I was not the one who ended our acquaintance, I don’t see any reason for me to start any communication with her. So I was very civil and acted as if I was just on the flight with some stranger especially from Calgary to Vancouver where I was seated right across the aisle where they were seated. Lucky enough, from Vancouver to Manila, we were seated far from one another. Unfortunately, you’ll never know who you will be on the same flight with you. I should say that on my flight home, I have lots of good friends also on the same flight, one of whom is my advertiser. So one unhappy person on that flight seeing my presence is not worth spoiling my trip. One thing I have proven on this flight though is that whatever your status quo is in Calgary will never be distinguished if you are on the same economy flight – meaning to say that you are just both passengers and you will be treated equally.
Going back to my visit in Manila, there’s lots to see, lots to do, lots of people to visit that 3 weeks will go so fast. I will share some of my encouters here in Manila on our next issue. For now, let me get back to work and do my assignments so that I can give you a full report of my trip. I am not looking forward to flying back to our cold winter, but Calgary is my home and will be back for sure!
Until next issue, enjoy reading and please send us your comments/suggestions.
