Hello everyone!  After the Halloween comes Remembrance Day and now it’s barely 45 days when you get this issue and we will be looking forward to the holidays.

As a publisher of this Filipino community paper, there have been growing pains getting into the role when I started in 2008.  Now I realized how people come and go into our lives, whether be from work or even in our personal life.  How you mentor newbies and lost them once they can fly with their own wings. I will not close my doors if I lose 1, 2 or 3 because I know that I will have multiples of good people who will be with us in this publication. We have said our goodbye to MAIN INGREDIENT and FOOTPRINTS and we  will be looking forward to new segments in our paper.

I would like to welcome to our pool of writers, Romeo Montoya, Jr., who just arrived in Calgary as a new immigrant not too long ago.  With his experience in Journalism back in the Philippines, he will give us his insights of how he finds life in Canada compared back home.  We also want to welcome his comeback in writing for the culinary segment of our publication, Nikko Gueco.

With all the natural disasters and economic crisis going on around the globe, all we can do is to help one another in time of crisis.  There are several ways to send your donations for all this calamities around the world. There’s the Canadian Red Cross who constantly have their fund drive for each specific calamities, there is also the United Way who has been sharing their donations to different cause and if you are wanting to donate directly to our fellow Filipinos, the best way to do it is thru SAGIP KAPAMILYA.  The last typhoon that PINOY TIMES got involved with sending relief goods, we send 10 boxes to SAGIP KAPAMILYA and RED CROSS; and all the boxes were acknolweged and cash donation to the Philippine Red Cross as well.  There’s always the ANCOP where you can sponsor children from the Philippines, their main office is in Ontario and they have their website that you can browse different ways of helping our fellow Filipinos.  My husband and I have sponsored 2 children thru ANCOP and I visit them when I go back to Manila.  It’s a good way to help children especially if it goes towards their education.  So why don’t you try and visit the website for these charitable organizations and learn how we can give a helping hand to the needy.  It is indeed something worthwhile doing.

I would like invite everyone to come and participate in our upcoming ON THE SPOT PAROL MAKING CONTEST on December 17, 2011 from 9 am to 1 pm at the UMAC warehouse in NE Calgary. Please call (403) 9752120 for details of this contest.  Cash prizes awaits the winners and no need for materials to buy because we will provide the materials.

Until next issue my dear friends and again thank you to all our advertisers for without you, we will not be here to serve you!

MABUHAY ANG PINOY!
