The Other Side

Magically, our City has changed from brown to green and our summer has arrived! The chances of poor weather, rain, hail, early winter etc. means it may or may not last long. We should make each day count, get out and get some fresh air and exercise – it will do wonders for our mental and physical health. Nowhere else in Canada enjoys as much daylight as we do in Alberta – hence a slogan from years past – Sunny Alberta. It is bright until after 10 pm for the next few months. Take advantage of it!

The month of April saw the successful release of the Spring Edition of Pinoy Living Today and I hope you picked up your copy. Well written articles, top quality glossy pictures and smart thinking advertisers to support this gem has proven yet again that the Filipino community gets what they want! Continue to provide feedback to the Publisher and you will keep Pinoy Living Today as the only FREE lifestyle Magazine you need to be informed. If you’re looking for a copy of the Spring Edition there are still some available. Call or email Publisher Connie and we’ll get some to you!

One of our recent walks and hikes around the City in April was exploring St. Patrick’s Island and the new Riverwalk Promenade. Although still in progress of being developed, this whole area is part of the East Village project. The St. Patrick’s Island Bridge and Centenary Park construction are underway and before the whiners start complaining about another badly needed Bridge, try doing some research. While checking out the Riverwalk Promenade and the awesome lighting, high tech. public Comfort Rooms (they talk to you, the toilet won’t flush unless you wash your hands etc.) I suggest you tour the Condo sales centres. With the number of high-rises going up in that area the Bridge WILL be needed! Like the Airport tunnel, our City continues to look to the future with their decisions. Did you know that 70,000 people are moving into “Stonegate” in the N.E., north of Country Hills Blvd.? They will need the roads and tunnel to get to, and around our expanding Airport too. Keep on building Calgary!

In closing, the excitement is building in anticipation of the 15th year of KASAYAHAN Performing Arts’ annual presentation. If you have yet to enjoy this top quality Show, don’t miss it! If you are like most of us and NEVER miss it, we’ll see you there! The party happens on June 16 and this year’s venue is St. Vladimir’s Cultural Centre. Will the Delrieah Trio be returning? With over 100 beautiful performers, their families and many Volunteers involved, you can get tickets in advance or at the door. You’ll be glad you did!

Enjoy your long weekend!

Steve
