PBA Legends Visit Calgary thumbnail

By: Fernando A. Chuidian

Calgary, Alberta

Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) fans and aficionados here in Calgary were witness to a showcase of basketball skills, talent and experience as some of the league’s greatest and most exciting players flew in to this city for an exhibition game against local Filipino – Calgarian players.

The ex-PBA superstars dubbed as the Legends all made their mark  playing for most of the  biggest teams in the PBA such as Purefoods, Ginebra, Shell, Alaska and San Miguel. The Philippines Basketball Association ( PBA)  widely  considered as Asia’s Premiere Basketball league  hailed  this home grown athletes as some of the finest players that ever played in the pay for play league. Their  hard – court savvy and mastery of the game rightfully earned  them their place in PBA history and into the hearts of millions of Filipino basketball fans.

Bannering  the team of Forex Cargo Express and headed by ex – PBA coach Derek Pumaren the PBA Legends line – up is composed of 4 time Most Valuable Player (MVP) Alvin “The Captain” Patrimonio, Allan “The Triggerman” Caidic, former  MVP Johnny “The Flying A” Abbarientos, Vergel “The Aerial Voyager” Meneses, Nelson “The Bull” Asaytono, Dindo “The Bullet” Pumaren, Jerry “Defense Minister” Codinera, Kenneth “ Captain Marvel” Duremdes and JoJo “Jolas” Lastimosa.

Fans and supporters had the chance to rub elbows and be up close and personal with  their PBA  idols at a  meet and greet dinner held at the Barrio – Fiesta restaurant on October 25, 2012.

Game  day  is set on  October 26   at the Genesis Sports Center at exactly 6 pm which also featured  two equally exciting supporting games  Gamara Enterprise pitted against Genesis  Wellness Centre and Barrio Fiesta  going up against Pacific Hut Restaurant.  Adding more excitement and glitter to the event fans and spectators  were treated to half time entertainment numbers, raffle prizes and a 3 – point shoot out contest.

Forex Cargo  Owner and General Manager Ms. Emma Bohol did the ceremonial  toss  afterwhich  The PBA Legends jumped into action against the Filipino – Calgarian selection. The ex-BA stars thrilled the crowd with their familiar patented  moves while the Calgary selections meant serious business not budging an inch and showed no respect for the all pro team.  It was a see–saw battle, all throughout the game that saw the PBA Legends leading by just four points at half – time. Second half action was more intense with the Calgary selections keeping in  close  bay  mostly by  hitting outside shots and  from the 3 point area , At the final buzzer    the final score stood 90 to 82 in favor of the Legends.  Four of the PBA legend players  were all in double figures  with  Kenneth Duremdes top scoring at  31 points, Meneses 14, Patrimonio, Caidic and Asaytono   12 points each.

The basketball fanatics indeed spend almost 4 hours of ball game that they will never forget because it brought them memories back during the days when they used to watch basketball games of their favorite PBA players.  Thanks for FOREX ALBERTA and none other to Ms. Emma Bohol for bringing the PBA legends in Calgary.
