New ‘Annie’ stars hope to follow Lea Salonga’s footsteps

MANILA, Philippines – The musical “Annie” is back in the country and this time it will star Krystal Brimmer and Isabeli Araneta Elizalde.

The musical first staged in the country in 1980, where the Broadway star Lea Salonga was noticed in a young age. This was followed by another staging in 1998, and after 18 years it’s back for another staging.

Krystal and Isabeli are both new with theater performances, but were able to bag the title among the hundreds of young girls who auditioned for the role.

Nine-year-old Krystal is not new to acting as she was noticed in last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival where she bagged the Best Child Actress award for the film “Honor Thy Father.”

While for 10-year-old Isabeli, this is her first professional acting experience although she has been active in different school performances.

In the photo is Michael de Mesa with Krystal Brimmer and Isabeli Araneta Elizalde who will be alternating for the role of “Annie” in the musical.
