Four Calgary community projects receive support to improve services

Calgary… The efforts of four Calgary nonprofit organizations to build a stronger, more inclusive community and provide services to some of Alberta’s most vulnerable citizens were given a helping hand March 19.

The four organizations will share more than $2.1 million provided through the Community Initiatives Program (CIP) and Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP).

Community Kitchen Program of Calgary Society – $751,340 (CIP)
Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta – $672,309 (CFEP)
Calgary Immigrant Educational Society – $500,000 (CFEP)
Calgary Urban Project Society – $200,000 (CFEP)

“These grants are significant in terms of the dollar value,” said Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, “but the real value is found in the work of these organizations and the benefits to the community. Their efforts are helping Albertans to access vital support programs and build the capacity we need to address community needs now and for the future.”

The Community Initiatives Program provides funds to empower local citizens and community groups to work together and respond to local needs. The Community Facility Enhancement Program assists not-for-profit organizations throughout the province to plan, upgrade and develop community-use facilities and places to enhance community life and well-being.

The Alberta government is working to build a better Alberta by fostering economic growth, strengthening our health and education systems, investing in infrastructure, supporting safe and strong communities, and ensuring a clean and healthy environment.
